Diesel storage
What goes wrong in a diesel tank
Water gets into every diesel tank, through condensation, wet deliveries and the vent. Bacteria and fungi grow where it meets the fuel. Their sludge blocks filters, and a blocked filter stops a haul truck or a locomotive.
A biocide kills the growth. A fuel treatment keeps injectors clean and helps water separate out of the fuel.

Before you order
Does the same distributorship cover aviation?
Yes. It covers all Callington products in Namibia. Our own expertise is mainly in aviation.
Will a biocide clean up a contaminated tank?
Not on its own. A biocide kills the organisms, but the dead growth, the water under the fuel and any sludge on the tank floor stay where they are.
Where growth is established, plan filter changes after the first dose and a tank clean after that. Draining water off regularly does more to prevent it than any additive.
What is in a diesel fuel treatment?
Usually several additives in one pack. Detergents keep injector nozzles clean. A lubricity improver protects pumps and injectors on low sulphur diesel. A demulsifier helps water drop out so it can be drained, and a corrosion inhibitor protects the steel in tanks and fuel lines.

Can tank washings be discharged at sea?
Ask to see the IMO paperwork for the specific cleaner before you buy. Whether washings can go overboard also depends on what the tank held.
Where are the hygiene products used?
For cleaning and general infection control on commercial sites: offices, hotels, restaurants, vehicles and healthcare settings. They come from the Callington range we distribute, and any efficacy claim is Callington’s, set out in its data sheets.
