Importing into Namibia
What paperwork and duty apply to an import?
The documents you already produce for other markets: commercial invoice, bill of lading or air waybill, packing list, certificate of origin, and any import permit the product needs.
Namibia applies the Southern African Customs Union’s common external tariff, so goods from outside the union pay the same rates as in South Africa. In 2026, VAT on imported goods is 15%.

How does the Namibian dollar trade?
At par with the South African rand. The two are pegged one to one within the Common Monetary Area, so Namibian dollar exposure can be priced and hedged as rand exposure.

Which language are contracts and customs papers in?
English. It is the official language of Namibia under Article 3 of the Constitution.
How big is the Namibian market?
Small. The 2023 census recorded 3.02 million people. Namibia is in a customs union with Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and South Africa, and goods cleared into it move between the five members without further customs duty.
